ITAM Coordinator

The Integrated Training Area Management (ITAM) Program Coordinator is responsible for the strategic planning, coordination, and oversight of training area management initiatives. This role ensures that training environments are maintained in a safe, sustainable, and mission-ready condition through a balanced application of environmental stewardship, resource management, and rigorous compliance with regulatory standards. The coordinator serves as a critical liaison between training units, environmental management teams, and external personnel, integrating best practices in geographic information systems (GIS), forestry, and land management to support various training activities.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Develop, implement, and continuously refine comprehensive management plans for training areas. Coordinate scheduling of training exercises, facility usage, and related projects to ensure operational excellence. Manage communications between internal sections, training units, and external partners, ensuring alignment of goals and efficient resource allocation. Apply sound environmental practices by integrating GIS technology and forestry management techniques to monitor and maintain the health of training lands. Evaluate training areas, oversee land stewardship initiatives, and implement improvements aimed at sustainability and risk mitigation. Ensure all activities adhere to regional and national environmental and safety regulations. Maintain comprehensive records of training area usage, land condition assessments, and project outcomes. Create regular reports and presentations for senior management and regulatory bodies, highlighting progress, challenges, and sustainability metrics. Develop and lead inspection activities to preempt noncompliance issues and environmental hazards. Serve as the primary interface for coordination between military units (or training organizations), environmental experts, and local regulatory agencies. Facilitate regular meetings, briefings, and workshops to update contributors on project developments, strategic initiatives, and changes in policy. Oversee the planning, budgeting, and execution of projects related to training area improvements. Identify funding opportunities and manage resources efficiently, ensuring projects are completed on time and within budget. Leverage project management tools to guide initiatives from conception through implementation and review. Develop and deliver training programs on best practices in training area management, GIS applications, and compliance regulations. Mentor and lead junior personnel, ensuring the dissemination of technical expertise and the development of future leaders in integrated training management.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail. Excellent written and verbal communication abilities. Proficiency in using project management and data analysis software. Ability to work both independently in an office setting and in challenging field environments. Flexibility and adaptability in dynamic operational conditions. Physical ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and rugged terrains as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Land Management, Natural Resource Management, Geography, Forestry, Horticulture, or a related field. Minimum of 6 years of experience in land management, environmental compliance, or training area coordination. Proven track record in managing large-scale, multi-disciplinary projects that integrate training operations with resource management. Strong foundation in environmental regulatory compliance and sustainable land management practices. Effective project management skills with an aptitude for strategic planning, budgeting, and risk assessment.
