Training Supervisor/Expert

The Training Supervisor/Expert is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, delivery and evaluation of training programs within a state government department. This position leads a team of trainers and instructional designers, ensuring that training initiatives are aligned with the organization's objectives and that employees are equipped with the skills and knowledge to perform their jobs effectively.

Typical Functions:

The assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency’s operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts. Supervise a team of trainers and instructional designers, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to ensure high-quality training delivery. Oversee the development and execution of training programs across the department, ensuring they meet organizational objectives and employee needs. Coordinate and deliver both in-person and virtual training sessions, workshops, and seminars for employees at various levels. Regularly evaluate the effectiveness of training programs through feedback, assessments, and performance metrics, making necessary adjustments to improve training outcomes. Work with subject matter experts to ensure that training content is accurate, relevant, and tailored to the specific needs of various departments. Implement Learning Management Systems (LMS), eLearning platforms, and other digital tools to improve training delivery, tracking, and evaluation. Ensure that training materials are updated regularly to reflect changes in policies, procedures, or regulations.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Extensive experience in designing and developing effective training programs, including curriculum, materials, and assessments. Expertise in both in-person and virtual training delivery methods, including experience with classroom training, webinars, and eLearning formats. Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple training initiatives and meet deadlines. Proficiency with training technologies, such as Learning Management Systems (LMS), eLearning platforms, virtual meeting tools (e.g., Zoom, Teams), and multimedia content creation.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma is required, plus 3 years of training related experience. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
