Senior Law Enforcement Training Officer
The Senior Law Enforcement Training Officer is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating law enforcement training courses for basic, advanced, and specialized programs. As a senior-level training professional, this position leads instructional efforts, mentors junior training staff, and ensures compliance with state training standards set by the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST).

Typical Functions:
Deliver high-quality instruction in areas such as legal procedures, firearms, defensive tactics, de-escalation, investigations, ethics, and emergency response. Facilitate classroom learning, practical scenarios, and physical training exercises in accordance with CLEST-approved curricula. Contribute to the development, revision, and improvement of training materials and lesson plans. Integrate current law enforcement trends, state laws, and best practices into instructional content. Mentor junior instructors and cadets through professional guidance, constructive feedback, and coaching. Act as the lead instructor on complex or high-stakes training courses. Maintain accurate records of student performance, attendance, and course evaluations. Ensure that all training activities meet CLEST requirements and documentation standards. Assist in preparing training reports for agency review and audit purposes. Lead scenario-based training that simulates real-life law enforcement challenges. Oversee firearms qualification, driving courses, use-of-force drills, and emergency response simulations. Ensure safety protocols are strictly followed during all field exercises.

Strong problem-solving skills to adjust teaching methods or scenarios in real time. Adaptable to evolving training mandates, legal updates, and learner needs. Ability to manage conflict, model de-escalation, and encourage respectful discourse.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least four years of experience in law enforcement, including one year in a training or leadership capacity. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
Required Certificates:
Must be a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Arkansas. CLEST General Instructor certification required. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
