Revenue Specialist
The Revenue Specialist is responsible for processing, reviewing, and verifying tax-related documents and payments for the State of Arkansas. This position ensures accuracy, compliance, and customer support across various tax programs, including individual income tax, corporate tax, sales tax, motor vehicle registration, and more. The Revenue Specialist serves as a key liaison between the Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) and the public, delivering quality service and maintaining the integrity of state revenue operations.

Special Job Requirements:
Typical Functions:
Process tax returns, payments, and related documents for accuracy and compliance with Arkansas state tax laws. Assist taxpayers in person, by phone, and via email regarding filing requirements, refunds, account status, forms, and deadlines. Perform data entry and document verification for income, sales, motor vehicle, or business tax accounts. Research and resolve taxpayer discrepancies, account errors, and missing documentation using agency databases and procedures. Reconcile payment records, issue receipts, and prepare financial reports as needed. Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with state regulations and departmental policies. Operate office equipment including computers, scanners, cash registers, and document imaging systems. Refer unresolved or complex issues to supervisors or specialized units for follow-up. Participate in training to remain current with tax laws, procedural changes, and system updates. Assist with special projects such as audits, outreach, or system upgrades.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Able to explain technical tax information in a clear and respectful manner. Accurate in handling data, reviewing forms, and processing transactions. Detects and corrects errors before they impact taxpayer records. Capable of reviewing documentation and identifying inconsistencies or potential compliance issues. Understands tax processes and can apply policies to unique cases.
Minimum Qualifications:
A high school diploma plus one (1) year of experience in customer service, bookkeeping, tax preparation, cash handling, data entry, or administrative support. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
