Registered Dietician

The Registered Dietitian is responsible for managing the nutrition care provided to clients in a state-operated healthcare facility, such as a hospital, nursing home, or other long-term care settings. The Registered Dietitian assesses the nutritional needs of clients, develops personalized nutrition plans, educates clients, families, and staff on nutrition-related topics, and ensures adherence to state and federal dietary regulations. This role also includes evaluating the effectiveness of nutrition interventions and collaborating with healthcare teams to optimize resident health and well-being.

Typical Functions:

Conduct thorough nutritional assessments for clients, including evaluating medical history, dietary habits, lab results, and individual preferences to create personalized, effective nutrition care plans. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to integrate nutrition care plans into the overall medical treatment plan, ensuring the needs of residents with chronic conditions (e.g., diabetes, hypertension, heart disease) are met. Provide individualized nutrition counseling to clients helping them understand the impact of nutrition on health and disease management. Monitor the progress and health outcomes of clients through ongoing assessments, adjusting nutrition care plans as necessary to improve health and nutritional status. Ensure compliance with state and federal nutrition and dietary regulations, including those set forth by the Arkansas Department of Health and other governing bodies.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Expertise in conducting detailed nutritional assessments and creating tailored nutrition care plans for residents with various health conditions. Ability to plan and modify menus that meet dietary needs, preferences, and restrictions, ensuring nutritional adequacy and food safety. Knowledge of federal and state regulations, including those from the Arkansas Department of Health, and how they pertain to dietary services in healthcare facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field from an accredited institution. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.

Required Certificates:

Must be licensed as a Registered Dietitian by the Arkansas State Board of Dietetics. A valid registration from the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) is required. Must maintain an active, unrestricted Registered Dietitian license from the Arkansas State Board of Dietetics. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
