Psychological Examiner

The Psychological Examiner is responsible for conducting psychological assessments, evaluating mental health conditions, and assisting in the development of treatment plans within a state government agency. This role involves working with diverse populations, including individuals in mental health facilities, correctional institutions, rehabilitation programs, and social service settings.

Typical Functions:

Conduct psychological evaluations and diagnostic assessments for individuals receiving state services. Administer, score, and interpret standardized psychological, cognitive, and behavioral assessments. Evaluate mental, emotional, and behavioral health conditions using evidence-based practices. Prepare detailed psychological reports with findings and recommendations for treatment or intervention. Collaborate with clinicians, social workers, and medical professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans. Provide recommendations for therapeutic interventions, educational accommodations, and rehabilitative services. Participate in case reviews and interdisciplinary team meetings to discuss client progress. Assist in monitoring and modifying treatment plans based on assessment findings. Conduct suicide risk assessments, behavioral evaluations, and crisis intervention screenings. Maintain accurate and confidential records in compliance with state and federal regulations.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Strong knowledge of psychological assessment tools, diagnostic criteria, and behavioral analysis. Proficiency in administering and interpreting cognitive, personality, and emotional assessments. Ability to analyze complex psychological data and produce clear, actionable reports. Understanding of trauma-informed care, neurodevelopmental disorders, and mental health conditions. Clear and concise reporting of findings to medical, legal, and social service professionals. Ability to assess and recommend interventions based on psychological findings. Ensuring accuracy in assessments, diagnoses, and reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must possess a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, or a related field; plus one year of experience in psychological assessments, counseling, or mental health services. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.

Required Certificates:

Must be licensed as a Psychological Examiner or Licensed Psychological Practitioner in the State of Arkansas. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
