Pharmacy Manager

The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for overseeing the pharmacy operations within a state government facility, ensuring that all pharmaceutical services are provided safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable laws and regulations. This position involves managing pharmacy staff, ensuring medication safety and efficacy, optimizing medication therapy management, and implementing pharmacy policies and procedures. A valid Arkansas pharmacist license is required to perform services in this capacity.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Manage the daily operations of the pharmacy, ensuring that medications are dispensed accurately and timely to patients or residents. Ensure compliance with all state and federal pharmacy laws, including those regarding the storage, handling, and dispensing of controlled substances. Oversee inventory control, including medication ordering, stock rotation, and the disposal of expired or unused medications in compliance with regulatory guidelines. Supervise and lead pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and other support personnel, ensuring that they are properly trained, supported, and motivated to perform their duties. Allocate tasks and responsibilities effectively, ensuring that workloads are balanced and deadlines are met. Monitor and evaluate medication therapy for patients, identifying potential drug interactions, side effects, or contraindications. Ensure that the pharmacy complies with all relevant regulatory and accreditation requirements, including safety, record-keeping, and reporting standards. Monitor and maintain the pharmacy’s compliance with state and federal laws, including the Controlled Substances Act, HIPAA, and FDA regulations.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Proven experience in managing a pharmacy team, including delegating tasks, providing mentorship, and conducting performance evaluations. In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical sciences, drug interactions, pharmacology, and clinical pharmacy practice. Expertise in medication therapy management (MTM) and patient-centered care, with the ability to collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams. Experience with medication formulary management, including the selection of medications for optimal therapeutic outcomes. Familiarity with state and federal pharmacy laws and regulations, including FDA, DEA, HIPAA, and Controlled Substances Act.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited pharmacy school is required, plus three (3) years of experience as a licensed pharmacist.

Required Certificates:

Must hold a valid Pharmacist License issued by the Arkansas State Board of Pharmacy. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
