OAL Computer Operator

The Office of Arkansas Lottery (OAL) Computer Operator position is responsible for supporting the execution of critical lottery system operations. This position plays a key role in ensuring the successful and accurate completion of multi-state and in-state lottery draw operations, including the monitoring of hardware, software, and associated human processes. This position helps ensure that financial data, winning numbers, official announcements, and broadcast results are conveyed correctly and in a timely manner.

Typical Functions:

Verify that all system components-including hardware, software, network connections, and user interfaces-are fully operational before, during, and after lottery draws. Monitor live draw procedures to ensure the accuracy and integrity of number selections for in-state and multi-state games. Confirm that draw results are correctly processed, transmitted, and posted across internal systems, public display platforms, and broadcast outlets. Ensure financial transaction data associated with game outcomes is processed and reported accurately. Collaborate with draw officials and vendors during scheduled draw events to execute assigned operational tasks and validate successful completion of each phase. Assist in preparing and testing draw systems, confirming readiness of components and resolving minor issues in coordination with technical staff. Maintain detailed logs of all draw activities, system alerts, operator actions, and anomalies for compliance, audit, and troubleshooting purposes. Verify that winning numbers are accurately displayed and published across authorized platforms (e.g., website, terminals, media). Conduct system checks to ensure all draw-related information has been transmitted correctly to appropriate recipients and databases. Support scheduled file transfers, data backups, and other operational tasks related to lottery systems.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Ability to follow precise instructions and verify that all components of a system process are completed without error. Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting incidents, documenting results, and coordinating with team members and supervisors. Recognizes the importance of accuracy and integrity in public service; consistently exercises discretion with sensitive data and secure operations. Capable of identifying and resolving routine technical issues or escalating when necessary to ensure uninterrupted operations. Able to respond effectively to shifting priorities, unexpected issues, and operational changes in real time.

Minimum Qualifications:

A high school diploma or GED, plus one (1) year of experience in computer operations or support are required. Technical degree or comparable experience is desired. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
