Museum Coordinator

The Museum Coordinator plays a critical role in the management, preservation, and educational outreach of a state-operated museum. This position is responsible for coordinating exhibits, programs, and collections, as well as ensuring compliance with state and federal museum regulations. The Museum Coordinator will engage with the public, oversee visitor services, and collaborate with stakeholders to enhance the museum's impact on the community. Typical Functions:

Oversee daily museum operations, ensuring exhibits, visitor areas, and facilities are well-maintained. Ensure compliance with state policies and museum industry standards regarding collections, exhibits, and public programs. Maintain accurate records of artifacts, loans, and acquisitions using museum database systems. Assist in the development, installation, and curation of exhibits to ensure historical accuracy and engagement. Research, document, and prepare artifacts and exhibits for public display and educational use. Work with state and national organizations to coordinate traveling exhibitions and artifact exchanges. Develop and implement educational programs, guided tours, and workshops for visitors, schools, and community groups. Provide interpretive services, ensuring historical and cultural narratives are accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. Collaborate with educators to design curriculum-aligned materials and outreach initiatives. Ensure a welcoming, informative, and engaging visitor experience by training and overseeing front-line staff. Handle visitor inquiries, concerns, and feedback to enhance service quality. Monitor attendance trends and visitor engagement metrics to assess program effectiveness.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Knowledge of museum curation, artifact preservation, and exhibit design. Experience with museum database systems for cataloging and tracking collections. Basic understanding of historical research methods and interpretation techniques. Ability to analyze visitor trends and develop programs that enhance engagement. Strong communication and public speaking abilities to effectively engage with visitors and stakeholders. Organizational and multitasking skills to manage exhibits, programs, and administrative duties simultaneously. Attention to detail and accuracy in handling historical records and artifacts.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least two years of experience in museum administration, curation, education, community outreach, or a related field.
