Minority Health Commission Director

The Minority Health Commission Director serves as the chief executive and strategic leader of the Arkansas Minority Health Commission (AMHC). This position is responsible for directing the development, implementation, and evaluation of statewide policies and programs aimed at eliminating health disparities and promoting health equity among Arkansas's minority populations and underserved communities.

Typical Functions:

Provide executive leadership and vision for the Commission’s mission to ensure the equitable distribution of health resources and services to Arkansas’s minority communities minority populations and underserved communities. Develop and implement strategic plans to address minority populations and underserved communities disparities in collaboration with state agencies, healthcare providers, educational institutions, and community organizations. Serve as the primary spokesperson and advocate for minority health issues minority populations and underserved communities within the state, representing AMHC in public forums, legislative hearings, media interviews, and interagency collaborations. Oversee the administration of grant programs, contracts, community outreach initiatives, and special projects in accordance with Commission objectives and legislative mandates. Lead the development of public health education campaigns, training programs, and community events designed to reduce disparities and improve health literacy among underserved populations. Monitor and analyze statewide health data, identify trends in health inequities, and provide actionable policy recommendations. Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships with minority communities minority populations and underserved communities, faith-based organizations, schools, nonprofits, and public health agencies.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Skilled in strategic planning, public health policy development, and systems-level program administration. Strong advocacy skills with the ability to navigate political and institutional systems to drive policy and program change. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; effective in public speaking, media relations, and community engagement. Proficiency in budget development, grant management, and fiscal accountability, including managing state appropriations and federal funds. Skilled in overseeing program evaluation, data reporting, and operational efficiency.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in public health, health services administration, public policy, social work, or a related field, plus five (5) years of experience in public health, healthcare management, minority health, or community-based program administration are required.
