Librarian
The Librarian is responsible for providing basic library services and support to library patrons. This role involves assisting with the organization and maintenance of library materials, providing reference and information services, and supporting various library programs and activities. The librarian works under the supervision of more experienced and proficient library personnel and contributes to the overall operation and success of the library.

Typical Functions:
Assist with the organization and maintenance of library collections, including cataloging, shelving, and inventory management. Support library programs and activities, such as story times, book clubs, and educational workshops. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to library activities and circulation. Process new materials, including books, periodicals, and multimedia, for addition to the library collection. Help maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming library environment. Communicate regularly with internal library personnel and in an attempt to provide assistance. Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge. Follow library policies and procedures to ensure the smooth operation of the library.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Attention to detail and accuracy in cataloging and record-keeping. Flexibility and adaptability to changing library needs and situations. Basic understanding of digital resources and information technology. Empathy and patience in working with library colleagues.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field. Prior experience in a library setting, such as internships, volunteer work, or part-time employment, is preferred but not required. Knowledge of library principles, practices, and cataloging systems. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Proficiency in using office software, such as Microsoft Office Suite, and library management systems. Commitment to ongoing professional development and a willingness to learn. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
