Law Enforcement Training Officer

The Law Enforcement Training Officer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and delivering law enforcement training programs for cadets, officers, and public safety professionals in Arkansas. This role supports state-mandated basic, advanced, and specialized training programs that promote competency, ethics, and effectiveness in law enforcement.

Typical Functions:

Deliver classroom and hands-on training in areas such as Arkansas law, report writing, firearms, use of force, traffic enforcement, defensive tactics, ethics, and emergency response. Facilitate dynamic, scenario-based training simulations to reinforce decision-making, teamwork, and safety protocols. Assist in developing and updating course materials, lesson plans, and instructional guides to comply with CLEST standards. Stay current with changes in Arkansas law enforcement practices, procedures, and state regulations to ensure curriculum relevance. Maintain accurate records of student attendance, test scores, and performance evaluations. Ensure training documentation and activities comply with the Arkansas Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and Training (CLEST) regulations. Participate in audits or accreditation activities, as needed. Enforce safety protocols during physical and field training, including firearms qualification, physical conditioning, and high-risk scenario exercises. Serve as a subject matter resource for specialized law enforcement skills or topics, such as crisis intervention or de-escalation.

Strong verbal communication and presentation abilities for both classroom and field settings. Capacity to convey complex information clearly and concisely to learners at varying levels of experience. Dependability, integrity, and a strong commitment to public service ethics. Flexible and resourceful in addressing learner needs and adapting lesson plans or instruction methods as situations evolve. Strong situational awareness and critical thinking, especially during scenario training. Emotional intelligence and the ability to build rapport with a diverse population of learners. Calm demeanor and professionalism under pressure, particularly when addressing safety concerns or performance issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least three years of experience in law enforcement. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.

Required Certificates:

Must be a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Arkansas. CLEST General Instructor certification required. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
