IT Division Manager
The IT Division Manager is a senior leadership position within the state government, responsible for overseeing the operations of the IT division within a specific department or agency. Typical Functions:
Lead and manage the IT division, overseeing day-to-day operations, setting goals, and ensuring that resources are allocated effectively. Supervise IT staff, provide mentorship and training, and promote a collaborative environment where team members are empowered to excel. Develop and implement IT strategies that align with the department’s goals, ensuring that technology services and infrastructure support the overall objectives of the state. Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure technology is used effectively to meet business needs. Oversee the planning, execution, and successful delivery of IT projects. Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets, ensuring projects are completed within scope and meet the desired outcomes. Use project management tools and methodologies to track progress, manage risks, and address challenges. Ensure the department’s IT infrastructure, including networks, systems, and applications, is efficient, secure, and scalable. Monitor system performance, identify areas for improvement, and implement solutions to enhance operational efficiency. Lead the division’s cybersecurity efforts, ensuring that systems, data, and networks are protected from cyber threats. Work with security teams to implement policies, conduct risk assessments, and enforce compliance with state and federal security regulations.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Proven ability to lead and manage a team of IT professionals, fostering a collaborative and high-performance work environment. Ability to develop and execute IT strategies that align with departmental and organizational goals. Experience in assessing business needs and translating them into technology solutions. Expertise in managing multiple IT projects simultaneously, including the ability to develop project plans, allocate resources, monitor progress, and resolve issues. Knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall). In-depth understanding of IT infrastructure, including networks, databases, cloud services, enterprise applications, and cybersecurity best practices. Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues and identify long-term solutions. Knowledge of best practices for securing systems, data, and networks. Experience in implementing security policies, conducting vulnerability assessments, and managing risk. Ability to communicate complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders in an understandable manner. Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, with the ability to make informed decisions in a fast-paced environment.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field is required, plus eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in IT management or technology operations.
