IT Disaster Recovery Specialist

The IT Disaster Recovery Specialist is an entry-level position responsible for supporting disaster recovery efforts within the State of Arkansas. This role is focused on the execution and maintenance of disaster recovery plans and assisting with the restoration of IT services following disruptions. The IT Disaster Recovery Specialist will help ensure that the state's IT systems are prepared for recovery in the event of a disaster.

Typical Functions:

Assist in the development and implementation of IT disaster recovery plans and procedures. Support the review and update of disaster recovery documentation and ensure alignment with best practices. Participate in disaster recovery testing and exercises to ensure readiness and identify areas for improvement. Assist in tracking and analyzing test results to ensure compliance with recovery goals. Support the recovery of IT systems and services during real disaster events. Document recovery actions taken and contribute to post-incident reviews. Assist with monitoring the recovery progress of IT systems, ensuring that recovery objectives are met. Foster strong relationships with other state agencies, federal authorities, and private-sector partners to collaborate on cybersecurity issues and share intelligence. Manage and direct a team of cybersecurity experts, ensuring continuous professional development and alignment with best practices. Advocate for cybersecurity awareness across all levels of state government, ensuring that all employees understand their role in safeguarding state resources. Assist in maintaining compliance with industry regulations, including NIST, HIPAA, FISMA, and others, by conducting regular audits and assessments.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Basic disaster recovery and IT infrastructure principles. Familiarity with IT recovery tools, such as backup solutions and cloud recovery platforms. Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex recovery procedures. Ability to assist in conducting disaster recovery tests and exercises. Ability to collaborate with IT teams and other departments during disaster recovery efforts. Willingness to learn disaster recovery practices and tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

Associate’s degree in information technology, computer science, or related field. Certification in disaster recovery or business continuity (e.g., CBCP or similar) is preferred but not required. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
