IT Coordinator

The IT Coordinator plays a crucial role in coordinating IT disaster recovery efforts across multiple state departments. This position is responsible for facilitating communication, assisting with planning, and ensuring that all disaster recovery activities are executed efficiently and effectively. The IT Coordinator ensures that disaster recovery plans are aligned with state policies and regulatory requirements and assists in the preparation for recovery scenarios.

Typical Functions:

Assist in the development, implementation, and maintenance of IT disaster recovery and business continuity plans for state systems. Coordinate recovery efforts between various state departments, ensuring that recovery objectives are met on time and within budget. Ensure all disaster recovery resources are allocated effectively and work with department heads to prioritize critical systems. Plan and execute disaster recovery testing and exercises, ensuring that recovery plans are effective, and that staff are well-prepared for a disaster scenario. Analyze the results of disaster recovery tests and provide recommendations for improving recovery procedures and outcomes. Assist in the creation of disaster recovery documentation, including recovery plans, test results, and incident reports. Prepare regular reports for senior management on the status of disaster recovery readiness, including any identified gaps or issues that need attention. Liaise with IT teams, external vendors, and contractors to ensure all recovery processes and technology are up-to-date and aligned with the state’s disaster recovery framework. Communicate disaster recovery plans and procedures clearly to all relevant stakeholders and ensure they understand their roles during a disaster event.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

IT disaster recovery procedures and business continuity planning. Basic understanding of backup technologies, cloud recovery systems, and disaster recovery tools. Knowledge of risk management principles and compliance regulations. Strong organizational skills to manage multiple recovery tasks and projects simultaneously. Effective communication and coordination skills to work across various teams and departments. Ability to use disaster recovery tools and platforms, such as backup software and cloud disaster recovery systems. Ability to manage disaster recovery exercises and tests, ensuring they are conducted smoothly. Ability to evaluate disaster recovery performance and recommend improvements. Ability to prepare clear and concise documentation and reports.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, cybersecurity, or related field preferred. At least three years of experience in IT support, disaster recovery, or a related field. Certification in disaster recovery or business continuity (e.g., CBCP or similar) preferred. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
