Inventory Manager

The Inventory Manager is a strategic leader responsible for overseeing and optimizing the entire inventory lifecycle within an organization. This role involves implementing robust inventory control systems, managing stock levels across multiple channels, and ensuring that the supply chain operates efficiently while reducing costs and minimizing waste. The Inventory Manager collaborates with procurement, logistics, production, and sales teams to align inventory flows with business objectives, using data-driven strategies and advanced software tools to forecast demand and monitor performance.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Develop, implement, and continuously improve inventory management systems and policies. Monitor stock levels, manage reorder points, and ensure that inventory levels meet both current and future demand. Conduct periodic audits and cycle counts, investigating and resolving discrepancies. Analyze historical sales data, market trends, and ordering patterns to forecast demand. Prepare regular, detailed reports on inventory performance, stock turnover, and cost analysis. Leverage inventory management software (Enterprise Resource Planning systems) to drive data-driven decision-making. Lead and mentor the inventory management team, ensuring adherence to best practices and compliance standards. Work closely with procurement, warehouse, logistics, and finance to ensure timely order fulfillment and optimal stock levels. Negotiate with suppliers to secure cost-effective contracts and manage lead times effectively. Design and enforce standard operating procedures for inventory control to maintain quality and efficiency. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies, preparing for audits and regulatory inspections. Drive initiatives to integrate new technologies (such as Radio Frequency Identification, IoT, or blockchain) to further enhance inventory accuracy and transparency.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Proficiency in analyzing quantitative data to forecast trends and optimize inventory levels. Strong working knowledge of Enterprise Resource Planning systems, advanced Microsoft Excel skills, and familiarity with emerging supply chain technologies. Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor team members effectively. Exceptional organizational abilities with a keen eye for detail and efficiency. Capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 8 years of experience in inventory management, supply chain management, logistics, or a related financial / operational role. Demonstrated success in managing teams, process improvement initiatives, and cross-functional projects within a complex operational environment. Professional certifications such as Association for Supply Chain Management Certified in Production and Inventory Management (ASCM CPIM) or Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) may be required. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
