Intake Supervisor/Expert
The Intake Supervisor/Expert is responsible for overseeing the intake process of inmates within the Arkansas Department of Corrections. This role ensures that all incoming inmates are processed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with state and federal laws, providing a critical function in maintaining order and safety within correctional facilities. The position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:
The assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency’s operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts. Supervise and manage the daily operations of the intake process, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards. Oversee the intake staff, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and making disciplinary decisions. Develop and implement policies and procedures to ensure the efficient and accurate processing of incoming inmates. Ensure that all required documentation and information are accurately collected, verified, and recorded during the intake process. Coordinate with other facility staff, administrators, and law enforcement agencies to facilitate the smooth intake of inmates. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the intake process, making adjustments as needed to improve efficiency and accuracy. Address and resolve any issues or concerns related to the intake process. Maintain accurate records and documentation related to the intake process and outcomes. Prepare reports on intake activities, performance, and achievements. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards related to the intake process. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Comprehensive understanding of correctional practices, policies, and procedures. In-depth knowledge of the intake process and related regulations. Familiarity with state and federal laws and regulations governing corrections. Awareness of record-keeping and documentation requirements. Ability to make fair and impartial decisions based on evidence and testimonies. Proficiency in developing and implementing policies and procedures. Ability to analyze and interpret data to assess the efficiency and accuracy of the intake process. Competence in maintaining accurate records and documentation. Capability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in general business, records management, or related field; plus, two years of experience in inmate records or a related field, including one year of experience in a leadership capacity. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
