Inmate Classification Analyst

The Inmate Classification Analyst plays a critical role in the Arkansas Department of Corrections by assessing, analyzing, and assigning inmates to appropriate security levels, housing assignments, and treatment programs based on their classification. This position ensures that inmates are placed in environments that align with their risk levels, rehabilitation needs, and compliance with institutional policies. The Inmate Classification Analyst works to maintain the security, safety, and effective management of the correctional facility by providing recommendations and data-driven insights regarding inmate classification. This role requires a strong understanding of correctional processes, data analysis, and risk assessment principles.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Conduct assessments of inmates to determine appropriate classification levels based on risk, behavior, and needs. Evaluate and interpret inmate information, including criminal history, behavior records, and psychological assessments. Develop and implement classification plans, ensuring inmates are placed in the appropriate housing and programs. Monitor and review inmate classifications regularly to ensure continued appropriateness and make adjustments as needed. Collaborate with facility staff, mental health professionals, and other stakeholders to gather and share information relevant to inmate classification. Maintain accurate records and documentation of inmate assessments, classifications, and changes. Prepare reports on inmate classification activities and outcomes. Ensure compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards related to inmate classification. Provide training and support to facility staff on classification policies and procedures. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Comprehensive understanding of correctional practices, policies, and procedures. In-depth understanding of the principles of correctional facility operations, inmate behavior, and classification criteria. Familiarity with psychological assessments, criminology, and behavioral risk assessments used in the classification process. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to review complex information and make informed, data-driven decisions. Proficiency in data collection, data analysis, and report generation, using both manual and computerized systems. Ability to analyze and synthesize large volumes of data to make sound decisions regarding inmate classification and placement. Ability to work effectively in a team environment and collaborate with other departments, such as mental health professionals, case managers, and security staff.

Minimum Qualifications:

The formal education equivalent of a high school diploma, plus, one year of experience in correctional security or related area. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
