Forester Manager

The Forester Manager is responsible for overseeing forestry programs, supervising forestry personnel, and ensuring the effective management of forest resources within the State of Arkansas. This position involves planning, directing, and evaluating forest management, conservation, and wildfire prevention activities while ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Supervise and mentor a team of foresters, technicians, and support staff. Directly reports to State Forester and assists high-level agency tasks. Provide training, professional development, and performance evaluations for forestry personnel. Ensure delivery of forest management technical assistance to forest landowners. Develop and implement forest management plans to ensure sustainable use and conservation of state forests. Oversee timber harvesting, reforestation, prescribed burning, and land restoration programs. Ensure compliance with Arkansas forestry laws, environmental policies, and federal regulations. Monitor forest health, pest control, and wildfire risk mitigation efforts. Utilize GIS technology, mapping software, and data analysis tools to support forestry planning. Supervise fuel reduction initiatives to minimize wildfire threats. Assign tasks and ensure effective resource allocation and project execution. Represent the agency in public meetings, industry conferences, and stakeholder discussions. Respond to public inquiries, landowner concerns, and forestry-related policy issues. Develop and manage program budgets, funding allocations, and financial reporting. Ensure compliance with state and federal grant requirements related to forestry programs. Prepare and submit annual reports, impact assessments, and operational reviews.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Strong expertise in forest ecology, silviculture, and timber management. Proficiency in GIS mapping, GPS technology, and forest inventory analysis. Understanding of Arkansas forestry laws, conservation policies, and best management practices. Knowledge of fire suppression techniques, emergency response coordination, and prescribed burning operations. Ability to manage a team of forestry professionals. Strong decision-making skills in high-pressure situations such as wildfires. Ability to prioritize tasks, manage multiple projects, and ensure compliance with forestry policies. Knowledge of federal grant regulations and budget processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least five years of experience forestry experience, including two years in a leadership capacity.

Required Certificates:

Must be licensed as a Registered Forester in the State of Arkansas. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
