Fingerprint Technician
The Fingerprint Technician is responsible for capturing, analyzing, classifying, and comparing fingerprint data for identification and investigative purposes. This role ensures the accurate entry, processing, and retrieval of fingerprint records to support criminal justice functions and public safety initiatives across the state.

Typical Functions:
Collect and process inked and electronic fingerprints from individuals, including criminal offenders, applicants, and government employees. Perform pattern classification and comparison of fingerprint data using manual methods and automated systems such as AFIS (Automated Fingerprint Identification System). Review incoming fingerprint submissions for accuracy, legibility, and completeness. Accurately enter and update biometric and demographic data in state and federal databases. Maintain and retrieve fingerprint records in compliance with Arkansas state law, departmental procedures, and CJIS (Criminal Justice Information Services) standards. Assist with background checks and identity verification processes for licensing, employment, or investigative purposes. Respond to inquiries from law enforcement agencies, the public, and internal departments regarding fingerprint procedures and record requests. Provide technical assistance and guidance to external agencies using fingerprinting systems or submitting fingerprint cards. Perform routine quality assurance reviews to ensure data integrity and compliance with federal/state fingerprinting standards. Follow confidentiality protocols and data security policies to protect sensitive criminal justice information. Participate in audits and assessments to maintain compliance with Arkansas state standards and FBI regulations.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Exceptional focus when handling biometric data and maintaining identification integrity. Ability to distinguish fine ridge detail and variations in fingerprint patterns. Familiarity with fingerprint classification systems. Experience with automated biometric identification systems. Strong verbal and written communication skills when interacting with staff, law enforcement, or the public. Maintains professionalism when dealing with sensitive or confidential information.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least six months of experience in fingerprinting, criminal justice, records management, or a related field. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
