Farm School Coordinator
The Farm School Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the Arkansas Farm to School and Early Childhood Education Program. This role involves coordinating statewide goals and strategic planning for the program, conducting general outreach and awareness activities regarding farm to school in Arkansas, and providing hands-on instruction to support agricultural education for students, educators, and the public.

Typical Functions:
Coordinate statewide goals and strategic planning for the Arkansas Farm to School and Early Childhood Education Program. Conduct outreach and awareness activities to promote farm to school initiatives across Arkansas. Support the procurement of locally grown products for farm to school programs. Facilitate relationships between key stakeholders, including producers and institutional food service professionals. Identify, develop, and distribute resources, technical assistance, and training materials. Serve as the primary point of contact for farm to school stakeholders, offering guidance on procurement and compliance with federal and state regulations. Develop training materials to support stakeholders in the local procurement process. Travel in-state for meetings, site visits, and outreach. Collaborate closely with the Arkansas Department of Education, other state agencies, support organizations, and farm to school partners.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of small-scale agriculture, including specialty crop production (fruits, vegetables, herbs) and sustainable growing methods. Experience with planning, maintaining, and managing gardens as educational and food production spaces. Knowledge of agricultural education curriculum development and teaching methodologies. Strong skills in delivering engaging lessons and representing the program in public forums. Ability to design, implement, and evaluate educational initiatives. Ability to plan, prepare, and conduct trainings, educational programs, or events. Knowledge of the administration and management of school nutrition programs.
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum of two years’ experience in agricultural education, farm management, or program coordination. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
