Education Paraprofessional
An Education Paraprofessional, also known as a Teacher Assistant or Instructional Aide, is responsible for supporting certified teachers in the delivery of educational instruction and the management of the classroom environment. This role involves assisting with lesson preparation, providing individualized support to students, and helping maintain an organized and productive learning atmosphere. The paraprofessional works under the supervision of a certified teacher.

Special Job Requirements:
Typical Functions:
Assist teachers in the preparation and implementation of lesson plans and instructional materials. Provide one-on-one or small group support to students in an attempt to reinforce learning concepts and skills. Help manage classroom behavior and maintain a learning environment. Supervise students during non-instructional times, such as lunch, recess, and transitions. Assist with the assessment and evaluation of student progress, providing feedback to the teacher. Support students with special needs, following individualized education plans and accommodations. Help organize and maintain classroom materials, equipment, and supplies. Provide clerical support, including data entry, record-keeping, and photocopying. Communicate regularly with teachers, other paraprofessionals, and parents in an attempt to support student learning and development. Participate in professional development opportunities in an attempt to enhance skills and knowledge.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Patience, empathy, and understanding in working with students. Ability to follow directions and work collaboratively. Flexibility and adaptability to changing classroom needs and situations. Basic proficiency in using educational technology and tools. Knowledge of educational principles and practices. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with a variety of student populations, parents, and educators. Familiarity with classroom management techniques and strategies.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
