Driver’s License Coordinator

The Driver's License Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the administration, processing, and compliance of driver's licensing operations within the State of Arkansas. This role ensures adherence to state and federal regulations governing driver's license issuance, renewal, suspension, and revocation. The position requires strong organizational, customer service, and regulatory enforcement skills to ensure efficient, accurate, and legally compliant licensing processes.

Typical Functions:

Oversee the issuance, renewal, replacement, and modification of driver’s licenses in compliance with Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) and federal Real ID Act requirements. Review and verify applicant documentation, identity verification, and eligibility for license issuance. Process commercial, non-commercial, motorcycle, and specialty endorsements per state guidelines. Ensure compliance with state laws regarding suspensions, revocations, and reinstatements. Provide guidance and assistance to the public regarding driver’s license requirements, fees, and procedures. Address customer inquiries related to license suspensions, medical qualifications, and reinstatement procedures. Resolve applicant concerns and disputes professionally while maintaining a commitment to public service. Maintain accurate and detailed records of license applications, renewals, and other transactions. Conduct audits and verifications to ensure compliance with Arkansas DFA and federal regulations. Assist in the detection and prevention of fraudulent activity, reporting any irregularities to the appropriate authorities. Work with law enforcement agencies, court systems, and state departments to verify driver eligibility and legal status. Coordinate with motor vehicle agencies in other states to exchange licensing information. Assist in public education efforts regarding licensing updates, law changes, and public safety initiatives. Train and support clerical staff and examiners in licensing processes and procedures. Ensure that licensing offices maintain up-to-date materials, forms, and technology for processing applications.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Strong understanding of Arkansas driver’s licensing laws, REAL ID requirements, and federal transportation regulations. Familiarity with motor vehicle and driver record systems used for data entry and verification. Ability to interpret and apply licensing policies and legal standards accurately. Excellent verbal and written communication skills to explain policies clearly to the public and stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills to handle customer concerns with professionalism and courtesy. Ability to manage high-volume customer interactions while maintaining accuracy and efficiency. High level of accuracy in processing applications, reviewing legal documents, and maintaining records. Ability to assess discrepancies in identity documents or eligibility requirements and take appropriate action. Strong organizational and time-management skills to coordinate multiple tasks effectively. Strong commitment to handling sensitive personal information securely. Ability to apply state and federal privacy laws to maintain data integrity and prevent unauthorized access. High ethical standards and commitment to upholding regulatory compliance without bias.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least two years of experience in motor vehicle licensing, customer service, regulatory compliance, or a related field. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
