The Disability Unit Supervisor/Expert provides expert guidance and oversight to a team of adjudicators, ensuring that claims are processed accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with legal standards. This role involves leading a team while also serving as a subject-matter expert in the field of disability claims.

Typical Functions:
The assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency’s operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts. Supervise and provide technical expertise to a team of disability adjudicators. Review and analyze complex claims to ensure decisions are made in compliance with disability law. Provide training, mentoring, and performance evaluations for adjudicators. Conduct audits of case decisions and recommend improvements for accuracy and efficiency. Handle high-level cases and address issues that require expert judgment and decision-making.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Advanced knowledge of disability laws, regulations, and adjudication procedures. Strong leadership and mentoring skills. Ability to assess complex claims and provide expert guidance. Excellent communication skills for internal and external collaboration. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, biological, life sciences, or a related field. At least 4 years of experience in disability claims adjudication, with 2 years in a supervisory or expert capacity.
