Disability Physician Specialist
The Disability Physician Specialist conducts medical evaluations to determine the extent of an individual's disability and its impact on their ability to work. This role is responsible for reviewing medical records, completing physical examinations when necessary, and making recommendations for disability benefits. The Physician Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that all evaluations meet Arkansas state guidelines and federal regulations.

Special Job Requirements:
Typical Functions:
Review medical records and other documentation submitted by applicants for disability benefits. Conduct physical examinations and assessments when required to gather additional clinical data. Provide written reports detailing findings and recommending eligibility for disability benefits. Work with a team of healthcare professionals and administrative staff to coordinate medical evaluations and ensure efficient processing of claims. Participate in disability determination meetings and collaborate with other experts in the field. Follow up on cases as needed to provide additional evaluations or clarification for ongoing claims.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Strong clinical knowledge of medical conditions, diagnostic criteria, and treatment protocols. Ability to evaluate medical evidence and make disability determinations based on medical and functional impairment. Attention to detail in reviewing medical records and documentation. Knowledge of state and federal disability regulations and policies. Effective communication skills for preparing reports and interacting with applicants and team members. Proficient in medical documentation and electronic health records.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school. Active, unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Arkansas. Minimum of two years of clinical experience in a medical setting. One year experience in evaluating disability claims or working with disability services is preferred. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
