Disability Hearing Officer
The Disability Hearing Officer is responsible for presiding over hearings related to disability claims appeals. This role includes evaluating evidence, listening to testimony, and making determinations based on the legal standards set forth by applicable disability laws.

Typical Functions:
Preside over hearings for claimants appealing disability decisions, ensuring a fair and impartial process. Review medical, vocational, and testimonial evidence presented by claimants, legal representatives, and medical professionals. Prepare written decisions that summarize evidence, findings, and conclusions, and issue rulings on eligibility for benefits. Provide clarity to claimants and their representatives regarding the legal standards and procedures involved in hearings. Collaborate with other disability professionals to ensure consistency and fairness in hearings.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Extensive knowledge of disability law, including relevant administrative procedures and regulations. Strong ability to evaluate and interpret complex medical and vocational information. Excellent oral communication and decision-making skills. Strong attention to detail and writing skills for preparing clear, legally sound decisions. Ability to remain impartial and objective in all proceedings. Knowledge of disability benefits laws and adjudication procedures is essential.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in law, public administration, social work, psychology, or social work. At least 3 years of experience in disability claims processing, with at least 1 year in a quality assurance role.
