Disability Division Deputy Director

The Disability Division Deputy Director assists the Division Director in managing and overseeing the division's operations. This position supports the Director in strategic planning, policy development, and daily management while directly overseeing specific programs and operational areas. The Deputy Director is also responsible for ensuring program efficiency and compliance with applicable laws and regulations. In the absence of the Director, the Deputy Director assumes leadership of the division.

Typical Functions:

Assist in the administration of disability-related programs, ensuring that services meet the needs of individuals with disabilities and comply with all state and federal regulations. Manage daily operations, including supervising staff, monitoring workflow, and ensuring that policies and procedures are followed. Lead and support strategic initiatives and program development under the Director’s guidance. Collaborate with other government agencies, organizations, and advocacy groups to improve disability services. Represent the division in meetings and public forums as necessary, advocating for the rights and needs of individuals with disabilities. Oversee the division’s financial and operational performance, providing recommendations to the Director for improvement.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Strong knowledge of federal and state disability laws and regulations, as well as the principles of public administration. Strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal skills. Proficient in conflict resolution, staff supervision, and performance management. Ability to assess program performance, manage large projects, and collaborate effectively with both internal and external stakeholders. Strong decision-making and problem-solving abilities. Proven experience in program management, policy development, and budget oversight. Knowledge of the Arkansas state government structure and operations is preferred.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in social work, public administration, or related field (master’s preferred). At least seven years of experience in disability services, with at least three years in a supervisory or management role.
