Disability Claims Specialist
The Disability Claims Specialist provides support to the adjudication team by handling routine claims, processing initial applications, and gathering necessary medical and vocational documentation for adjudicators. They work closely with claimants, healthcare providers, and other stakeholders to ensure all required materials are collected and organized.

Typical Functions:
Assist in gathering and reviewing necessary documentation for disability claims, including medical records, employment history, and vocational assessments. Verify eligibility information and provide applicants with information regarding the claims process. Communicate with claimants and healthcare professionals to collect additional information or clarify details in claims. Process routine claims and update case files accordingly. Assist with administrative duties and prepare materials for adjudication.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of disability claims processes and documentation requirements. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Good communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work efficiently in a team environment and support the adjudication process.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree preferred. At least 1 year of administrative experience, ideally in a healthcare or disability claims setting. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
