Disability Chief Physician Specialist
The Disability Chief Physician Specialist serves as the highest-level medical authority within the disability evaluation process in Arkansas. This role involves overseeing and guiding the medical evaluation team, making critical medical determinations for complex disability cases, and ensuring compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Special Job Requirements:
Typical Functions:
Lead and supervise the disability physician specialists and consultants in evaluating medical evidence and making disability determinations. Develop and review policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure that medical evaluations are conducted consistently and in line with current medical practices and regulations. Provide expert testimony in administrative hearings and legal proceedings related to disability claims. Oversee the medical review process for complex or high-profile cases. Stay current with medical advancements, research, and legal rulings affecting disability evaluations. Collaborate with other senior staff members to improve the efficiency and accuracy of the disability determination process. Mentor and provide ongoing professional development to staff members in the disability evaluation unit.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Advanced knowledge of medical conditions and their impact on functionality and disability. Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to lead a diverse team. Deep understanding of state and federal disability laws and regulations. Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills. Proficient in medical documentation and the use of electronic medical record systems (EMRs). Ability to communicate complex medical information to non-medical personnel and stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathy (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school. Active, unrestricted medical licensure in the state of Arkansas. Minimum of ten years of experience in a clinical or medical evaluation setting, with at least five years in a leadership or supervisory capacity. Experience in disability evaluations or working with disability services is preferred.
