Disability Adjudicator II
The Disability Adjudicator II is responsible for making determinations on disability claims that require moderate expertise in medical assessments, vocational history, and disability law. This position involves reviewing claims for eligibility and applying relevant state and federal guidelines. Adjudicators at this level handle cases with some complexity but typically under supervision or guidance from senior staff.

Typical Functions:
Review disability claims, including medical records, vocational histories, and work assessments. Apply state and federal regulations to determine eligibility for disability benefits. Prepare and submit written decisions that include a clear rationale for granting or denying claims. Consult with medical professionals, vocational experts, and legal advisors to ensure claims are adjudicated fairly and accurately. Participate in ongoing training and development to improve adjudication skills and stay current with changes in disability law. Maintain up-to-date case files and documentation, ensuring all required materials are included.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Knowledge of medical conditions and their impact on work ability. Familiarity with disability programs such as SSDI and SSI. Ability to analyze and assess medical and vocational records accurately. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present decisions. Ability to manage a caseload efficiently. Knowledge of disability law and medical terminology.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, sociology, biological, life sciences, or related field preferred; plus eighteen months of experience in Social Security disability adjudication. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
