Dietician Supervisor/Expert

The Dietician Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the dietary and nutrition services in a state-operated healthcare facility, including nursing homes, hospitals, or long-term care settings. This position may supervise a team of dietitians and food service staff, ensuring that the dietary needs of residents are met through personalized nutrition care plans, menu planning, and adherence to state and federal regulations. The Dietician Supervisor also ensures quality assurance, compliance with dietary guidelines, and effective staff training.

Typical Functions:

The assignment of supervisory duties is determined by the hiring agency’s operational needs. Non-supervisory roles will serve as senior technical experts. Supervise, train, and evaluate dietitians and food service staff, ensuring adherence to dietary guidelines, regulations, and facility protocols. Assign and monitor workloads, provide feedback, and conduct performance reviews for staff. Ensure that dietitians under supervision create accurate and effective nutrition care plans in collaboration with healthcare teams. Ensure all nutrition services comply with state and federal regulations, including those set by the Arkansas Department of Health and other regulatory bodies. Develop and implement ongoing training programs for dietitians and food service staff on current nutrition practices, regulatory requirements, and food safety. Act as a resource for the healthcare team on nutritional matters, providing expert advice on medical nutrition therapy, diet modifications, and nutrition-related medical conditions.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Expertise in evaluating residents’ nutritional needs and developing individualized care plans to address medical conditions and dietary requirements. In-depth knowledge of state and federal dietary regulations, food safety standards, and compliance requirements specific to Arkansas and healthcare settings.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in Dietetics, Nutrition, or a related field from an accredited institution. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.

Required Certificates:

Must hold a valid, unrestricted Dietitian license issued by the Arkansas State Board of Dietetics. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
