Deputy Warden II
The Deputy Warden II assists the Warden in managing the operations of a large correctional facility or a complex multi-facility unit within the Arkansas Department of Corrections. This role ensures the safety and security of staff, inmates, and the public while supporting the implementation of effective rehabilitation and reintegration programs. The position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:
Assist the Warden in overseeing the daily operations of the correctional facility or multi-facility unit, ensuring compliance with state and federal laws, regulations, and standards. Supervise and manage facility staff, including hiring, training, evaluating performance, and making disciplinary decisions. Develop and implement policies and procedures to maintain a safe, secure, and orderly environment. Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of rehabilitation and reintegration programs for offenders. Prepare and manage sections of the facility’s budget, financial resources, and expenditures. Conduct regular inspections of the facility to ensure adherence to safety and security protocols. Address and resolve inmate grievances and complaints. Represent the facility in meetings with government officials, community organizations, and other stakeholders. Collaborate with other state agencies, law enforcement, and community organizations to promote public safety and offender rehabilitation. Maintain accurate records and documentation of facility operations, incidents, and decisions. Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Thorough understanding of correctional facility operations, security protocols, and inmate management. Knowledge of Arkansas state laws, policies, and regulations relevant to the Department of Corrections. Familiarity with budget management, resource allocation, and reporting procedures in a state government setting. Strong leadership and managerial skills, including the ability to motivate and guide teams in a high-stress environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with staff, inmates, and external agencies. Ability to make sound decisions quickly and in a timely manner under stressful or emergency conditions. Ability to manage multiple responsibilities and competing priorities effectively. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with all levels of staff and other relevant agencies.
Minimum Qualifications:
The formal education equivalent of a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, business administration, or a related field. Seven years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, or a related field, including four years in a managerial or supervisory role.
