Criminal Detention Facilities Coordinator

The Criminal Detention Facilities Coordinator is responsible for overseeing compliance, operations, and safety within state and county detention facilities across Arkansas. This position ensures that detention centers adhere to state laws, policies, and best practices while providing guidance on facility management, security protocols, and detainee welfare. The role involves collaborating with correctional administrators, conducting inspections, and recommending improvements to enhance operational effectiveness.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Monitor and assess detention facilities for compliance with Arkansas state laws and regulations. Conduct facility inspections and audits to evaluate operational standards, safety, and security measures. Provide recommendations to enhance facility conditions, security practices, and inmate management protocols. Develop and implement corrective action plans for facilities found to be non-compliant. Assist state and county correctional administrators in improving detention facility operations. Guide detention personnel in best practices for inmate supervision, crisis management, and emergency response. Review and update statewide detention policies and procedures to align with industry standards and legal requirements. Analyze incidents, operational reports, and complaints to identify trends and recommend improvements. Provide technical support and consultation to correctional staff and local detention officials. Educate facility personnel on risk mitigation, de-escalation techniques, and emergency preparedness. Prepare and present detailed reports on facility conditions, compliance status, and policy recommendations. Work with government officials and law enforcement agencies to ensure the effective operation of detention centers.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Ability to assess facility conditions, identify risks, and develop solutions. Strong attention to detail in reviewing reports, compliance records, and operational procedures. Critical thinking to analyze security concerns and recommend effective interventions. Excellent verbal and written communication for reporting and policy development. Strong interpersonal skills to engage with facility personnel, government officials, and community stakeholders. Ability to train, advise, and guide correctional staff in operational best practices. Understanding of Arkansas detention facility laws, inmate rights, and correctional procedures. Familiarity with security protocols, emergency response planning, and risk assessment in detention settings. Ability to review and interpret legal and regulatory documents related to detention facility operations. Ability to work independently and collaboratively on compliance initiatives. Skilled in managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines in a high-stakes environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least three years of experience in corrections, law enforcement, detention facility operations, regulatory compliance, or a related field. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
