Corrections Training Officer
The Corrections Training Officer is responsible for the instruction, coordination, and development of training programs for correctional officers, staff, and new recruits within the Arkansas Department of Corrections. This role supports the development of professional knowledge, physical readiness, and ethical standards essential to safe and secure correctional facility operations.

Typical Functions:
Facilitate classroom and practical instruction on topics such as inmate supervision, security procedures, use of force, conflict resolution, emergency response, CPR/first aid, and report writing. Lead scenario-based training simulations, including crisis intervention, riot control, and cell extraction exercises. Instruct and coach trainees in compliance with ADC policy, Arkansas statutes, and national correctional standards. Assist in designing, reviewing, and updating training curricula to meet agency and legal requirements. Monitor trainee performance, administer evaluations and written exams, and provide feedback to participants and supervisors. Maintain accurate training records, reports, and documentation in accordance with the Arkansas Department of Corrections and ACA (American Correctional Association) standards. Participate in audits, inspections, and accreditation processes as needed. Conduct on-site assessments or evaluations of staff performance and training application.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Strong public speaking and instructional skills; able to communicate clearly across all levels of staff. Ability to explain complex procedures and safety protocols in understandable terms. Demonstrates integrity, accountability, and leadership in representing the agency. Serves as a role model for ethical conduct, discipline, and professionalism. Able to adapt training based on audience needs, field updates, or agency direction. Strong problem-solving abilities in dynamic classroom or field scenarios. Maintains composure and impartiality in high-stress situations.
Minimum Qualifications:
At least three years of experience in law enforcement. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
Required Certificates:
Must be a certified law enforcement officer in the State of Arkansas. CLEST General Instructor certification or Corrections Officer certification required. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
