Corrections Assistant Director II
The Corrections Assistant Director II is responsible for overseeing the planning, budgeting, and logistical support for construction projects within the Arkansas Department of Corrections. This role ensures that all correctional facilities meet the American Correctional Association's standards and continues the progressive inmate labor program. The position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.

Typical Functions:
Assist the Corrections Director in directing and managing the statewide operations of the Arkansas Department of Corrections, ensuring the smooth functioning of all correctional facilities under the department’s jurisdiction. Provide leadership and supervision to facility directors and senior management staff, ensuring alignment with the department’s policies and strategic goals. Oversee the implementation of operational strategies to enhance facility efficiency, security, and inmate management across all facilities. Support the development and execution of strategic plans, policies, and initiatives designed to improve safety, rehabilitation, and operational effectiveness in the correctional system. Manage day-to-day operations of assigned correctional facilities, ensuring that facilities adhere to safety, security, and operational standards. Monitor and evaluate operational performance, identifying areas for improvement and recommending adjustments to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Extensive knowledge of correctional operations, including security management, inmate behavior, rehabilitation services, and staff management. In-depth understanding of state and federal correctional laws, inmate rights, and constitutional standards within correctional facilities. Familiarity with budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation in a government setting. Strong leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and direct a team of facility managers and senior staff. Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, particularly in high-pressure situations or crisis management scenarios. Effective interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including government officials, facility staff, inmates, and the public. Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with colleagues, facility leaders, external partners, and community stakeholders. Ability to lead a large and diverse team, ensuring accountability, performance, and professional development across the department.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, law enforcement, public administration, or a related field is required. A master’s degree in criminal justice, public administration, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in the correctional or criminal justice field, with at least five (5) years of experience in a senior leadership position within a correctional or law enforcement agency.
