The Commercial Vehicle Driver is responsible for operating state-owned commercial vehicles, including trucks, buses, and other large vehicles, to transport goods, equipment, or passengers in support of state government operations.

Typical Functions:
Safely operate commercial vehicles (trucks, buses, or other large vehicles) to transport goods, equipment, or passengers to specified locations across Arkansas. Ensure timely and efficient delivery or pick-up of materials and equipment, adhering to routes and schedules. Perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle to ensure that it is in proper working condition, including checking fluid levels, tires, brakes, and other essential components. Adhere to all traffic laws, speed limits, and road safety regulations while operating state-owned commercial vehicles. Maintain accurate logs and records of hours worked, mileage, vehicle maintenance, and deliveries or pickups, in compliance with state and federal requirements. Ensure compliance with hazardous material handling and transportation guidelines, if applicable to the vehicle or cargo being transported. Conduct routine vehicle inspections and report any issues to the appropriate maintenance staff for repair. Perform basic maintenance tasks, such as checking fluid levels, tire pressure, and cleaning the vehicle, ensuring the vehicle remains in optimal condition. Maintain accurate and detailed records of trips, including timesheets, mileage logs, and delivery receipts. Submit required reports on time and in the correct format to ensure proper tracking of vehicle usage and maintenance.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Expert knowledge of vehicle operation, including large commercial vehicles and buses. Ability to drive safely under various weather conditions and terrain. Understanding of traffic regulations, road safety rules, and commercial driving standards. Ability to perform thorough vehicle inspections and identify mechanical issues or safety hazards. Diligence in maintaining accurate records and logs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Precise attention to cargo securing methods, ensuring safety during transportation.
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Required Certificates:
Must hold a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) in the state of Arkansas. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
