The Cashier is responsible for processing payments, managing cash transactions, and providing excellent customer service in a state government setting. This position requires strong attention to detail, accuracy in handling cash, and a commitment to upholding state regulations and policies.

Typical Functions:

Accurately process payments in the form of cash, checks, and electronic payments for state services. Maintain a balanced cash drawer and ensure proper documentation of all transactions. Issue receipts, change, and provide customers with accurate transaction records. Assist customers with payment-related inquiries and resolve payment discrepancies in a timely and professional manner. Provide courteous and efficient service to customers, addressing their needs and concerns with professionalism. Perform regular reconciliations of cash and other payment forms at the end of each shift. Report discrepancies or unusual transactions to a supervisor for further investigation.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Ability to handle difficult customer interactions and resolve conflicts in a positive and constructive way. Ability to identify issues in transactions or processes and provide solutions to ensure accurate and efficient payment handling. Strong mathematical ability to process payments, provide correct change, and perform cash reconciliations.

Minimum Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.
