Broadcast Editor

The Broadcast Editor is the highest position in the media production series and is responsible for overseeing the editing and final production of all broadcast materials for the state. This includes reviewing video, audio, graphics, and written content to ensure it meets state standards for clarity, accuracy, and compliance with government policies. The Broadcast Editor manages a team of editors and media professionals, provides guidance on editing techniques, and ensures the final product aligns with communication goals.

Special Job Requirements:

Typical Functions:

Lead the editing team in producing high-quality broadcast content, including video, audio, and graphics. Oversee the editorial process for state-funded programs, commercials, announcements, and public service videos. Review and approve all broadcast material for adherence to state communication guidelines and policies. Coordinate the final post-production process, including sound mixing, color correction, and graphic design. Ensure that all content is ready for broadcast on time and within budget constraints. Manage and train the media production team on the latest editing software and best practices. Collaborate with producers and other departments to ensure content meets objectives.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Expertise in broadcast editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, Avid). Strong knowledge of video and audio editing techniques, including color grading, sound mixing, and post-production. Leadership and team management skills. Exceptional attention to detail and an eye for visual storytelling. Ability to collaborate effectively with other departments and external stakeholders. Familiarity with government communication standards and legal requirements for broadcasting. Advanced proficiency with broadcast editing software and tools.

Minimum Qualifications:

A bachelor’s degree in media production, communications, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. At least five years of professional experience in broadcast editing, with a focus on leadership or supervisory roles. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
