Bank Examiner I
The Bank Examiner I is responsible for assisting in the evaluation of financial institutions to ensure their compliance with banking laws and regulations. This role involves supporting senior examiners in analyzing financial data, identifying risks, and assessing the overall safety and soundness of banks. The Bank Examiner I contributes to maintaining the integrity of the financial system while gaining the foundational skills needed for career advancement in financial regulation.

Special Job Requirements:
Typical Functions:
Assist in conducting examinations of financial institutions under the guidance of senior examiners. Review and analyze financial reports, and operational procedures to identify potential risks or irregularities. Evaluate compliance with applicable banking laws, regulations, and policies. Document findings and assist in the preparation of sections of examination reports, summarizing observations and recommendations. Participate in meetings with bank managerial personnel to discuss findings and follow-up actions. Stay informed about changes in banking regulations and industry trends. Attend training programs to develop technical skills and understanding of bank examination procedures.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Excellent communication and writing abilities for reporting findings. Attention to detail and ability to handle sensitive financial data with discretion. A willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced regulatory environment. Ability to work in a team environment. Ability to travel routinely for on-site examinations and training.
Minimum Qualifications:
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, economics, or a related field, or a specialized bachelor’s degree related to the specialty bank examination fields of Information Systems and/or Trust. Coursework should include at least 24 semester hours in business-related subjects such as accounting, finance, marketing, economics, mathematics, or statistics, with a preferred qualification that at least 6 semester hours are in accounting. Basic knowledge of financial principles and regulatory practices. A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or equivalent may substitute for some experience requirements. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
