Audiologist

The Audiologist is responsible for diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with hearing, balance, and other auditory disorders. The role involves performing hearing evaluations, fitting and calibrating hearing aids, providing therapeutic interventions, and offering counseling and education to patients and their families. This position requires strong technical expertise in auditory science, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals.

Typical Functions:

Conduct comprehensive auditory assessments, including pure-tone audiometry, speech audiometry, tympanometry, and otoacoustic emissions testing. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on patient assessments and diagnoses. Fit and calibrate hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other auditory devices, ensuring proper function and patient comfort. Provide patients with training on the use and care of hearing aids, cochlear implants, and assistive listening devices. Conduct balance and vestibular function tests, such as electronystagmography (ENG) and videonystagmography (VNG), to diagnose balance disorders and dizziness. Maintain accurate, detailed, and timely documentation of patient assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, and follow-up care in accordance with state regulations and facility policies.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:

Proficient in conducting comprehensive hearing tests, interpreting results, and diagnosing auditory and balance disorders. Skilled in developing personalized treatment plans and fitting hearing aids, cochlear implants, and other auditory devices to meet patient needs. Knowledgeable in performing and interpreting vestibular function tests to assess and manage balance disorders.

Minimum Qualifications:

A Doctoral or Master’s degree in Audiology from an accredited program.

Required Certificates:

Must hold a valid Audiologist license issued by the Arkansas State Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, in accordance with state regulations. Certification by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) or the American Board of Audiology (ABA) is preferred, but not required. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
