Accounting Coordinator
The Accounting Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and overseeing a variety of accounting functions within a state government agency. This includes managing financial records, supporting budgeting processes, preparing reports, ensuring compliance with regulations, and coordinating with other departments to ensure efficient and accurate financial operations. The position is responsible for providing guidance and support to accounting staff and assisting management in making informed financial decisions.

Typical Functions:
Oversee the preparation and maintenance of financial records, ensuring the accuracy and completeness of all accounting transactions. Coordinate the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, ensuring compliance with state regulations. Coordinate accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and adherence to policies. Ensure that all financial processes and transactions comply with applicable state, federal, and departmental regulations. Provide oversight and guidance to junior accounting staff, ensuring proper training and adherence to accounting procedures and policies. Work with auditors to provide necessary information and respond to audit inquiries.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
Solid knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budgeting processes. Ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights for decision-making. Proficiency in managing accounts payable and receivable processes and verifying financial transactions. Understanding of state and federal financial regulations and ability to ensure adherence to these standards. Advanced proficiency in accounting software (e.g., PeopleSoft, QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel) and other financial management tools.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field from an accredited college or university, plus 3 years of accounting experience. Satisfaction of the minimum qualifications, including years of experience and service, does not entitle employees to automatic progression within the job series. Promotion to the next classification level is at the discretion of the department and the Office of Personnel Management, taking into consideration the employee’s demonstrated skills, competencies, performance, workload responsibilities, and organizational needs.
